Will you be able to work after drug and alcohol treatment? How will you manage the stress you are under at work? When it comes to working after rehab, it is possible to not only get help so you can work again, but it is also possible to have the confidence you need to thrive. The key is getting the addiction treatment you need to gain that confidence. At Crestview Recovery, we can help you do that.
Working After Rehab
Entering back into your life after your drug and alcohol treatment comes with a number of concerns. That includes simply facing the same stressors you were prior to entering into treatment. Working after rehab is a specific concern for some people. If your job is high stress, intense, or demanding of you, or one that you do not like being in, that may make it hard for you to actually get back at it. Remember that your recovery needs to always be your priority.
Yet, there is hope for you. The key is to know how to handle the situations you are faced with.
Work With Your Employer
One of the most common questions people have is about whether or not they have a job to go back to in the first place. If you tool the Family and Medical Leave Act, or FMLA, you requested that your employer maintain your position in the company while you sought medical help. If you are eligible for this, your employer has to maintain your position and your benefits for you during your care. They do not have to pay you for your time off. If FMLA applies to you, then you should be able to get back to work.
Can You Handle the Stress?
Another key factor that your alcohol addiction rehab team will work with you on is ensuring you have the mental fortitude to go back to your job. For those who are in professional careers, working as EMTs or lawyers or those who have otherwise high-stress jobs, it’s important to be ready to handle that stress. Your counselor will work with you on strategies that apply to your situation. This will likely include steps to reduce stress. This may include:
- Considering jobs that are less stressful if that’s an option
- Developing a plan to deal with day-to-day stress
- Learning how to rely on when you are feeling overwhelmed
- Healthy eating and exercise tips to keep your body able to manage the stress
- Investing in mentors or individuals who you can call immediately if you are at risk of using
Maintaining Your Treatment
Working after rehab is an exceptional way for you to get back to your life if you are ready to do so. If you are not sure or you start to struggle with the process, it’s important to recognize your need for ongoing help. This is when it is so important to have a drug and alcohol addiction team ready to support you through these new life changes.
