Overcoming an addiction is one of the hardest battles many people face. Men and women find themselves feeling like failures as they struggle to break free of a substance use disorder. It can feel like they’re being pulled underwater no matter how hard they try to swim to the surface. Crestview Recovery’s rehab center near Beaverton, Oregon can be the life raft men need to finally pull themselves out of the deep end of their addiction problems.
Male-Focused Treatment
Various sociological and biological differences affect the experiences of men and women in the throes of addiction. Studies have shown that men are more likely to become addicts, often falling prey to peer pressure. Males tend to abuse substances like cocaine and hallucinogens. They also tend to abuse abusing alcohol at higher rates than women.
Men tend to develop substance use disorders because of the expectations of society. They may feel pressure to prove their masculinity through heavy drinking. There’s also the pressure put upon them to have a successful career and provide for their family. Any perceived failure in these areas could have them turning to drugs or alcohol for release.
The dangers of these expectations are that men may be less inclined to seek out treatment. At Crestview Recovery, male clients get the chance to take part in a men’s rehab program that helps them address these issues. They get the opportunity to work through long-buried feelings that prevent them from overcoming their addiction.
Gender-Based Treatment
Crestview Recovery’s men’s rehab center puts the focus on issues specific to men struggling with abusing drugs, alcohol, or both. We also look for any untreated mental disorders. By removing the opposite sex from the equation, men may feel more comfortable opening up in group sessions about their problem.
They get the chance to bond with other men in the drug rehab center near Beaverton, Oregon who can relate to their experiences. Male clients learn to communicate better about their feelings. It’s also an opportunity to give and receive feedback from others in the men’s rehab center without judgment.
A men’s rehab program helps men put the focus on their healing without feeling the need to put up a front for the opposite sex. They receive the full benefit of being in a supportive environment that encourages their progress and helps them practice skills they will need to remain in a state of recovery.
