Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, is a way to help people struggling with a broad range of mental health and emotional concerns. Psychotherapy can help people manage troubling symptoms and improve their quality of life. Over time, therapy can improve well-being, self-awareness, and communication skills. If you are struggling with your mental health and nothing seems to work, an outpatient treatment program can provide group, individual, and integrated therapy. We offer treatment for mental health conditions as a primary diagnosis and as part of a dual diagnosis. Contact Crestview Recovery by calling 866.262.0531 to speak with an admissions specialist.
Talking Through Concerns with an Expert
Psychotherapy can help people who are struggling with daily life, healing from trauma, medical illness, grief and loss, and specific mental disorders like depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder. There are several types of psychotherapy, and some types may work better with certain mental health concerns and substance use disorders. Psychotherapy can be used alongside medication and integrative therapies.
What Is a Therapy Session?
Therapy sessions may be conducted in an individual, family, couple, or group setting. Sessions are typically held once a week and last between 30 and 50 minutes. Both the patient and therapist need to be actively involved and committed to healing. Building a trusting relationship with a client takes time, but a good therapist will put in the work. Types of therapy include:
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy
- Dialectical behavior therapy
- Process group therapy
- Integrated or holistic therapy
Psychotherapy is a category of treatment that focuses on mental health solutions. Psychotherapy has been shown to improve emotion regulation skills. Positive thought patterns help affect changes in the brain and body.
Psychotherapy and Medication
Psychotherapy may be used in combination with medication to treat mental health conditions. For many people, combining medication and psychotherapy offers tremendous healing power. Healthy lifestyle improvements like good nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate sleep, are essential in supporting recovery and overall mental wellness.
